Talisman

I am intrigued by the diversity of spiritual beliefs and practices, past and present, of the Islamic world.

The genesis of this work lies in the recovery by scuba divers of a collection of talismans and amulets from the Red Sea. Many included cryptic signs and symbols alongside legible pseudo-Arabic script. This body of work allows me the space to consider and explore the mystery and magic of these material intermediaries between the tangible and intangible.
